Strong Marriage Day 14 – I’ve Got Your Back [Rub]

By Emily Oak

physical touch healthy relationshipsMany people wrongly attribute the need for Physical Touch as something only men need to connect on a deep level.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.  Physical touch and sex are not the same thing.  Hand holding, cuddling, an arm around the waist and receiving a back rub are just a few of the many non sexual ways someone who’s primary love language is physical touch experiences love.

Strong Marriage Experiment Day 14 – I’ve Got Your Back [Rub]

Give each other a back massage that lasts at least 30 minutes

I envy the hands of massage therapists who can squeeze the life out of my muscles for a full hour just to receive their next patient minutes later.  I do not understand how it is physically possible.

Try as I may my hands are not strong enough to give a decent massage for longer than a few minutes.

My pervious attempts at massaging David’s back have always ended in disappointment.  Moments after I begin, my hands ache and any further effort is so weak it’s essentially useless.  We gave up on me attempting to rub David’s back years ago.

It hadn’t occurred to me to give massaging him another go since, historically, it’s never ended well.  When we were putting the Strong Marriage Experiment together we kept hearing from people how much the back rubs and foot rubs meant to them.  So, we decided to include it in the challenge — with much hesitation on my end.

Enter LUSH’s peach massage bar.

David gives me massages on a regular basis.  Nice long ones too.  It is a huge blessing to me being that my leading love language is physical touch.  It means so much to have him spend his strength on me in that way.  I wanted to return the favor.

Thank God for LUSH.

Using their peach massage bar, I was able to massage David’s back for a half an hour without tapping out.

I felt like a freaking rock star!

Then it was my turn.

TAKE ACTION:  Take turns showing a little love by investing your time and strength into soothing away each others stress and sore muscles byway of a back or foot massage.  Candles and music make it even better!
